JPEG
Joint Photographic Experts Group. Usually used to refer to the JPEG algorithm for lossy compression of bitmapped images, and to images compressed using it. JPEG is widely used on Web pages. One of the three image file formats natively supported by Web browsers. See also GIF and PNG.
