UTF
UCS Transformation Format. A character set encoding applied to UCS-2 values.
UTF-7
A UTF encoding which turns Unicode characters into streams of 7-bit values in the set of ASCII code points, so they can be transmitted safely through networks that are only equipped to deal with ASCII text.
UTF-8
A UTF encoding for representing single Unicode characters by variable-length sequences of up to six bytes. Values in the range 0–127 are sent as single bytes, which are identical to the ASCII codes for the corresponding characters.
UTF-16
A UTF encoding which allows pairs of 16-bit values to be combined into a single 32-bit value, to extend the character repertoire of Unicode beyond the BMP.
The glossary contains nearly 700 terms. Except for some common mis-spellings and Americanisms, definitions are only returned if they match the term you entered exactly. If you cannot find a definition for a term you expect to be in the glossary, try consulting the full list of terms.
