extrusion
In 3-D graphics, a method of generating 3-D objects from 2-D shapes, by extending a plane surface into the third dimension by sweeping it along a path. The simplest form of extruding extends the surface along a straight line perpendicular to the (x, y) plane, so the object grows outwards, as though it had been squeezed out of a shaped nozzle.
