  A detailed and highly technical account of video technologies, covering digital video and its analogue background. Mostly concerned with broadcast TV, but still relevant to multimedia.

• MPEG.ORG - MPEG Home

  Mpeg.org describes itself as “the most complete and comprehensive index of MPEG resources on the Internet”, but doesn’t really go beyond MPEG-2. It does include links to material about MP3 and AAC, though.

• MPEG home page

  The MPEG organization’s own site, includes some standards documents, although most MPEG standards must be purchased from ISO.

• Dirac

  The BBC’s R and D department’s pages about their wavelet-based video codec. You can find links to the Open Source implementations of Dirac if you want to experiment with it or see how a video codec is implemented.
